Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre was originally constructed in 2000. KFR Engineering was engaged to design an upgrade to the facility’s domestic hot water systems. The facility was equipped with a 140oF system for domestic use and a 170oF system for kitchen and laundry use, and both hot water systems were found to be undersized from the original design. In addition, domestic hot water recirculation piping was leaking throughout the facility due to extremely high velocities.
KFR Engineering replaced both domestic hot water systems in the mechanical room. Facility upgrades were provided to the systems through upgraded boilers, increased storage capacity and a cross connection between the systems for redundancy.
