The HMTory Building at the University of Alberta is named in honour of Henry Marshall Tory – the University’s first president. Originally constructed in 1966, the existing mechanical systems have been compromised by age and water treatment issues.
A phased renewal of the primary mechanical systems, combined with a plan to replace existing induction air conditioning units with new chilled beams was developed. The primary circulation systems were also upgraded with revised pumping circuits and heat exchangers to maintain isolation between the new and existing systems.
Primary systems were upgraded with revised pumping controls and heat exchanger to maintain isolation of both new and old systems. New risers serve the newer equipment while older, contaminated systems are maintained to support existing areas.
The phased renewal of each floor in the building is carried out based on determination by administration at the University of Alberta.
