Leadership College is a unique building intended to provide a social, academic, and cultural refuge for grad students at the University of Alberta. This innovative project includes student residence rooms, study and social rooms, faculty offices, a dining hall, fitness room, and recreational and lounge space. Construction is estimated to be completed in 2015.
As part of the University’s forward-thinking approach to energy efficiency and sustainable development, the new residence is targeted for Green Globes Level 4 rating for sustainable construction. This sets ambitious goals for energy efficiency from the mechanical systems. Energy saving designs will include dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), variable floor refrigerant cooling, and efficient and comfortable heating using in-slab heating radiant panels. A novel controls system will manage outdoor air using CO2 monitoring and efficiently meter energy consumption.
